The Relationship Between Dance and Music

"The Flying Dutchman" is an opera composed by Richard Wagner which in fact was inspired by a most perilous and even illegal journey by ship which the composer once took with his first wife, "Minna Planer" from Riga (Latvia) to London (England). It being in order to escape from those whom he owed money to that Wagner decided to flee Riga; under circumstances which were made even more daring by his needing to do so without a passport. This due to having been forced to surrender his passport to the authorities, who took it on behalf of his creditors.

Our New Year's Eve was very quiet last week, spent in Jerusalem with Momma Perez. Not only do they not celebrate New Year's Eve in Israel like they do in America - the Jewish calendar is different than ours - but New Year's Eve also fell on a Friday. Shabbat! Which means that everything was REALLY quiet that night.

So, to celebrate the new year, celebrate our friends and especially celebrate our bestie's birthday, we decided to throw a super fun party on Friday night at the penthouse of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Backdrops for Events and Three Places to Use Them

Appropriately thin fabrics including canvas, muslin, hessian and calico can be glued to a board; usually masonite, in order to achieve a heavily textured surface. This method is known as marouflaging; an extremely economical means of using excess fabric and board off-cuts while providing the ideal solution for painting on site or "en plein air" Firstly, thoroughly rub the surface with a somewhat dampened cloth to remove any excess dust, then place it facing down on a generously sized piece of fabric. Cut it to size leaving enough an approximate 2 inch overhang around the perimeter.

Learning A Musical Instrument More Ideas To Help Make Practicing Music Fun And More Effective

What do student revolutionaries, factory workers, prostitutes, and convict laborers have in common? They're all a part of the fabric of Victor Hugo's stirring story of moral courage and human darkness, as crafted in his 1862 novel, Les Miserables. And in Hugo's account of multiple forms of human suffering, in what eventually becomes the milieu of the French Revolution, the nobility of mankind still shines through.

Alicia Silverstone Is Pregnant!

Congratulations are in order for happily marrieds Alicia Silverstone and hubby Christopher Jarecki because today the couple have confirmed to People magazine that they are PREGS with their first child! I have been a HUGE Alicia fan since I first laid eyes on her in The Crush but my love intensified and solidified after seeing [...]

My plans for a night of dancing last night kinda fell apart at the last second but a new plan was formed for a big dance party celebration this weekend … therefore, I wasn’t too broken up about it. Instead, I stayed in and played a bunch of sweet records … natch. My plans for tonight are more exciting, tho, cuz my friend Jen and I will be trekking our way to Pomona, CA tonight to see 30 Seconds to Mars (and Jared Leto) LIVE in concert.

30StM are bringing their Into the Wild World Tour to the LA area tonight and I’m kinda amped to check it out. If you can believe it, I’ve seen 30StM 4 times before … going all the way back to 2000. While I’m not a huge fan of the music, I am a huge fan of seeing Mr. Leto perform on stage. The last time I saw them was in NYC for an MTV pre-VMAs party a few years ago. Tonight’s show will be my first concert of 2011.

The rest of 2011 looks pretty good for shows already. I have tix to see Crystal Castles, Girl Talk and Dashboard Confessional. Earlier today I managed to nab tix to see Janet Jackson and Kylie Minogue in LA, Las Vegas … and Berlin, Germany! It’s gonna be a great year for live music, methinks … now all we need is for our dear Britney Spears to announce a new tour and I can be allllll set. Happy Friday, Happy Weekend!!

Spancil Hill The Personal Tragedy Behind the Classic Irish Song

Hundreds of years of emigration meant that Irish people got used to being separated from their families and their loved ones. Their response to separations that they could not avoid was to remain as positive as possible and this quality is exemplified perfectly in the classic Irish song, The Parting Glass.

Why Set Up Time Is So Important At The Recording Studio

Review of "Some Guys Have All The Luck" CD by Rod Stewart I don't know about you but I've always liked Rod Stewart's voice. His early stuff was really passionate and "hungry" sounding, and he really helped to popularise the blue-eyed soul sound that has been central in the pop and rock music field for 4 decades. He's clearly influenced by Sam Cooke as well as the soul masters of the 60's such as Otis Redding as well as of course the artists on the Tamla Motown record label.

Modern Music Yes, Rap Is Music!

Michael Jackson - Pop music past present and future With all the change in pop music through the years there has been one constant name through 1966- 2010 and beyond. Michael Jackson "The King of Pop" amazingly has survived nearly 5 decades of music. His name has certainly been tainted through the last decade of court trials and tabloid magazines but his imprint on pop music will have an everlasting effect.

Rocket Piano Your Professional Guide to Play Piano

This article argues that live jazz bands are a superior form of wedding entertainment than wedding DJs. Some of the reasons put forth in the article include the fact that live bands are more flexible and can adapt their music to suit the mood of the occasion. They are good at 'reading' the crowd, and can even adapt the lyrics of songs to reflect the names of the bride and groom. They are also better value for money than a DJ because for around the same price (often less) you get four or five tertiary trained musicians, and DJs are often not from a musical background nor have any experience performing live music.
